OctVember Update
over 4 years ago – Sat, Nov 02, 2019 at 11:58:12 PM

Happy Octvember,

Thank you for journeying with us. It’s been a bumpy road.

The editor has returned the character creation section of the book back (68 pages) earlier this week. I am about 50% through those revisions. However, I am enlisting the help of a new editor to finish the back half of the book, as the main editor is now a proud parent. Seeing how her time will be full of newborn things, she will not be able to dedicate time to finishing the editing.

Luckily, editor number two, James, is finishing a project this weekend and will start on the second half of the book this coming week.

Kui’s Journal is waiting on three more pieces of art to round out that collection. It is in formatting as of current.

I will have another update on editing next Sunday. Let us have a look at Kui’s Journal art.

Gear Section: Weapon & Pricing
over 4 years ago – Wed, Oct 23, 2019 at 02:38:15 AM

We have a chart of 30+ "weapons" to choose from. List is here on GDrive

I am iffy on how this pricing structure works for the setting. I get Savage Worlds prices, but each campaign setting is different. I give to you backers the list in hopes of some feedback.

Each Hero begins play with 500 ki. To keep economics simple, it's a 1 for 1 system. 10 ki is 10 ki. No break down of change, a half ki, called a jie, is there, but the market attempts to deal in ki. This is so pricing can be easy to handle, ie fast and furious.

It's a low money setting, give or take on how you run want to play your anime inspired eastern fantasy game, but it is still Savage Worlds. The list is an adapted price, damage rating, Min Str / Agil., and notes. Go through it, and tell me the changes you feel need to be adjusted.

You can message me here, through our FB page (amoragame.com), post in the comments. If you think I should set up a google Q&A so you can submit Anon, I can do that.

PS: Yari & Naginata weight will be swapped.

Ensnaring: The weapon gives a chance (+ something rather) to entangle a weapon or opponent.

Disarm: Gives a + to disarm attempts.

September-ish update
over 4 years ago – Tue, Oct 01, 2019 at 07:52:39 PM

Female Kitsunemimi Kui

I missed a September update, for this I apologize. So we’ll call this the September one, with an October one coming in about three weeks from today.

The gazetteer section ran a little long on descriptions and location write ups. With some regret, I had to cut about 30 pages out. The 30 pages included adventure encounters for each location and while awesome, would have had maps to be finished. Saving face on time and budget, I have removed these location encounters from the gazetteer section of the book. This was a tough decision but waiting for maps would take another few months. I’ll circle round again once all the rewards are fulfilled and start ordering the location maps and have a ton of free one sheets. But that’s in the future.

Let’s talk about the now. We have a few pages left to reformat on the gazetteer and some things to fiddle with on other layout objects. Not everything is exporting into a PDF format properly.

Editing:

Yesterday I sent what has been finished in layout to the editor for a final editing pass. The editor said it will be about two – three weeks for her to get to looking at everything. That’s a few pages a day for her to get through. She’s good on time management and I think we should have something in email boxes in time for Halloween. We have a weekly meeting scheduled to keep us on track. If there is a delay I will know and will report in.

Again, thank you for patience during radio black out.

When last we left our Heroes...
over 4 years ago – Wed, Aug 21, 2019 at 11:26:29 PM

One Year and 6 days ago we kicked off this project and because of the great patience of Backers like you, we are able to make this project come together.

Current state of affairs:

  • Introduction section runs 8 pages.
  • General time-line breakdown taps into history etc is about 16 pages at
  • Character creation runs 60-ish pages (Concepts, Clans, Species, Tropes (iconic frameworks), Hindrance, Edges)
  • Setting Rules hover around 10 pages.
  • Day in the life of a Hero (Empire life, etc) is about 5-10 pages.
  • Chi techniques measure 10 pages.
  • Gazetteer section is being ironed out still. This is the layout that is taking some time currently.

Once the gazetteer section is finished in layout and a map style is decided a final final editing pass will be done. The map style that is linked is the full layout map of the San Empire from several updates ago that loaded in a tiny picture.

Closer to the finish line. Here is three Species and the Kui Trope to oogle at. A page background-trim is being selected to polish out the page design.

One of the species is the Terracotta. It's been playtested, but we are always wanting more feedback.

More updates on the way.

Let's Talk Nekomimi
almost 5 years ago – Fri, Jul 12, 2019 at 11:22:42 PM

The past month has been trying fickle fortune. Still hammering away at the files. Thank you for your patience as our project goes over our deadline. We want to get all the rewards right the first run through and avoid multiple updates to any of the files that can delay printing. As we have always had an open policy, if you feel the need to bow out of the project backing due to our delay, please feel free to address it with us and we can refund your money.

Again, we thank you for holding your martial stance as we fight the clock.

Let's take a look at the Nekomimi Species from a recent revision:

Nekomimi

Nekomimi are blessed with the blood from the cat spirits. Often viewed as lazy, capricious, and vain, nekomimi are creatures dedicated to exploration of luck in all its forms like their yokai antecedents. To truly understand them, one has to know they consider luck to be a living, sapient cosmic force (much like Chi). It is capricious and unpredictable, twisting events and coincidences according to its whims, sentiments, and desires. A nekomimi life is shaped by this understanding—they know the well deserved fruits of hard work can be taken away in a blink of an eye, the lazy can prosper, and the true love can be found and lost on the same night. This sense of impermanence and undeserved consequences of life makes nekomimi either detached and distanced from the life or passionately grasping the life as it comes.

While some nekomimi choose one of those stances over the other, many oscillate between those two philosophical paths (with the most extreme and the most stereotypical ones doing that on a moment’s notice). The more detached nekomimi respect the stoicism of the akaimimi, while the more hedonistic ones feel particularly aligned with the curiosity and joyfulness of araiguma and tanukimimi. Their opinion of inumimi and usagimimi tend to be less respectful, finding their communal spirits too restraining.

Like other kemonomimi, nekomimi are almost human, except for a pair of ears and a tail, resembling ears and tail of a cat. They are usually slender and lithe in build. Their skin colors ranges from pure black, through various bronzes, to reddish, orange, various tones of pink, to almost white, while their hair can be of any color seen in humans plus tones of green and blue. They can also have unusual combination of hair and skin color, such as orange hair and brown skin.

Fortune’s Agents, Fortune’s Playthings

There is a common sentiment among nekomimi that, despite all their supernatural power and command over the world, the deities are no less playthings at the mercy of the Fortune than the mortal beings. Heroes live with the blessing of the Fortune and die at the Fortune’s slightest whim more so than most other people. It is no wonder that mischievous nekomimi are attracted to adventuring life.

Racial Traits:

Low Light Vision: Kemonomimi are born with the optic inheritance of their animal ancestors. They ignores penalties for Dim or Dark illumination.

Playing with Fortune: Nekomimi have a natural aptitude towards games of chance. They start with d6 Gambling.

Lucky: Fortune giveth. Nekomimi draw one additional Benny per game session. This may be combined with the Luck and Great Luck Edges.

Unlucky: Fortune taketh. They have the Unlucky Hindrance.

 Hindrance: Unlucky (major)

When the individual fails, they do so with disproportionate favor. When a Critical Failure occurs the player loses all but one Bennie. Should the player only have one Bennie remaining at the time of a Critical Failure, it is lost.

While a brutal hindrance, it is just situational enough, where it isn't crippling (except when it happens).
